This one comes out of Sydney, but is a common sight throughout Australia. Municipalities (known as councils in Aus) are very open about the risks of walking under a canopy in high winds. As we all know, managing trees for risk is a difficult job, and it's impossible to have the time or the funds to deadwood every single tree in public spaces.
This approach at the very least is a good way to warn the public to a real danger that can be easily overlooked. I swear I've seen this generic cartoon boy somewhere before...but I feel like he was pushing an anti-cow agenda.
Regardless, I'm sure it's just a case of mistaken identity, or deja vu. Definitely not a Greek butcher, infringing on copywritten material. That's just a ridiculous idea Ahh, Canadian creek. On my approach I think of minnows and frogs moving in an out of a clear freshwater stream teeming with life. The paradisaical sound of water babbling over the smooth riverstones. An oasis of life in the middle of this income neighbourhood... Wait. Hmm...that's not anything like home. Canadian creek? It's like whoever named this was dropped in downtown Toronto and they thought every creek in Canada was like this... Fortunately no wrecked grocery carts, or motor oil, so at least it has that going for it.
It's not a sign, butt...I thought it was pretty clever. Say what you will, I'm okay with being the butt of a joke or two.
Was that two too many? ....risk disease?! Why didn't the staff at the National Park tell me this shortly before encouraging me to feed them?
Ahh well, I guess this is what waivers are for. This list includes funny and interesting signs that I’ve seen. No promises, but sometimes there may be context... The first one I thought was worth sharing because of my love of a certain detective. So the original settler who ‘bought’ (read: coerced) Melbourne from the hands of the Aboriginal culture was known as John Batman. In fact, there was a very brief point that Melbourne was nearly named ‘Batmania’ in his honour. Soon after folks realized there was little actual honour in coercing the generous aboriginal people out of their ancestral land, and so the awesome (if incredulous) suggestion of Batmania was renamed to the more innocuous Melbourne.* It's really too bad, because Melbournians could have been known as Batmaniacs, how awesome would that be?! *Disclaimer: I don’t know why they actually named it Melbourne. This got me thinking though, if he sailed here, he must have missed a lot of Sundays at Church while on the boat. This would have been a big deal in the 19th century. Fortunately there is a way to describe such a thing… |
