This list includes funny and interesting signs that I’ve seen. No promises, but sometimes there may be context...

The first one I thought was worth sharing because of my love of a certain detective.
It's just begging for a Gotham next to that 'City
Crime fighters to the left
So the original settler who ‘bought’ (read: coerced) Melbourne from the hands of the Aboriginal culture was known as John Batman. In fact, there was a very brief point that Melbourne was nearly named ‘Batmania’ in his honour. Soon after folks  realized there was little actual honour in coercing the generous aboriginal people out of their ancestral land, and so the awesome (if incredulous) suggestion of Batmania was renamed to the more innocuous Melbourne.* It's really too bad, because Melbournians could have been known as Batmaniacs, how awesome would that be?!

*Disclaimer: I don’t know why they actually named it Melbourne.

This got me thinking though, if he sailed here, he must have missed a lot of Sundays at Church while on the boat. This would have been a big deal in the 19th century. Fortunately there is a way to describe such a thing…
