Located on Howard St in North Melbourne just around the corner from the YHA. A quiet street even in the middle of the day.

Cost - $4
Culture - Relaxed building with high ceilings. Good music choices, though sometimes the music would buffer. A real bummer in the middle of a good song.

Here in NZ, a typical coffee costs about $4.50, and the flavors vary widely with the brand and roast of the beans. I've yet to find a cafe that serves a cup I can truly enjoy, and the music certainly varies depending on the hour of the day. Maybe trying cafes is like looking for wildlife - you can go to all the right places and still not find anything ;)
